Turkey's biggest city Istanbul will host the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) summit next year.
Heads of states and government officials of BSEC member states will convene in Istanbul, Turkey in June 2007 while the organization celebrates its 15th anniversary next year.
This November 1-2 in Moscow, Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul will represent Turkey at a meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the BSEC member states.
Russia currently holds the BSEC presidency.
On 25 June 1992, the heads of states and governments of eleven countries: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine signed in Istanbul the Summit Declaration and the Bosphorus Statement giving birth to the Istanbul-based organization.
BSEC Headquarters was established in March 1994 in Istanbul. With the entry into force of its Charter on 1 May 1999, BSEC acquired its international legal identity and was transformed into a full-fledged regional economic organization.
With the accession of Serbia and Montenegro in April 2004, the number of BSEC member states increased to twelve.
BSEC covers a geography encompassing the territories of the Black Sea littoral States, the Balkans and the Caucasus, an area of nearly 20 million square kilometers.
